The assurance team hits the ground running in early January, working with clients on audits, reviews, and compilations through the end of March. The tax team ramps up a bit later, with the heaviest stretch running from late January through the April 15th deadline. During those peak windows, Saturdays are part of the schedule, which is standard practice for CPA firms.

What CJG does differently is keep the sprints manageable. Our firm aims to concentrate the heavy hours into focused stretches, with the intensity tapering off as deadlines pass. The team also brings in lunch on Tuesdays during the February through April push and again from September through mid-October. It is a small thing that we do to make the more hectic times of year more enjoyable for our team.

A Culture Built on Communication and Collaboration

The partners at CJG are accessible daily. Team members can bring questions, problems, or concerns to leadership without jumping through hoops, and problem-solving tends to happen collaboratively rather than in silos.

Communication is structured, too. We hold a yearly town hall to share where things stand and where the company is headed. Employees also participate in anonymous surveys and have one-on-one check-ins with leadership two to three times per year, in addition to annual reviews. Those conversations give team members space to share what is and isn’t working.

Outside of the day-to-day, the team comes together for an outing at least once a year, plus an annual community service project, and celebrations after the two biggest deadlines of the year. These moments give us a chance to connect on a more personal level. We’re a team that genuinely enjoys working together.

The firm operates on a hybrid schedule, and team members have real agency over how they structure their time. Personal needs are handled with flexibility, and employees are not required to use vacation time for routine life events such as doctor appointments.

Overtime during busy season is compensated, either through additional pay or comp time. The firm also offers a competitive benefits package that includes health insurance, a 401(k) plan, profit sharing, life insurance, and a partial cell phone reimbursement.
